The persistent sorrow in society stems from social oppression, particularly the caste system. The cure lies in dismantling these oppressive structures. Buddha is a pivotal figure in history who initiated the first peaceful social revolution without bloodshed, advocating for profound societal change through non-violence and wisdom.

The twelve full moons hold significant importance for Buddhists, with each marking an auspicious event. Particularly, the full moon in May, known as Vaishakha Pournami, is sacred for three key reasons: the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BC, his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at the age of 35, and his passing at the age of 80 in 483 BC. This unique occurrence, termed ‘Triguna Pournami,’ is unparalleled, highlighting the extraordinary life of Buddha.

Buddha’s teachings fundamentally challenged the caste system, steering people towards a secular and just society. His influence was so profound that it paved the way for significant historical changes, such as the rise of Chandragupta Maurya in 325 BCE, marking the era when natives became rulers in a secular society.

Embracing Buddha’s path requires abandoning rigid religious beliefs and embracing a life of wisdom and compassion. As Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a modern advocate for the oppressed, asserted, following Buddha’s teachings is essential for true social liberation.

Buddha’s wisdom resonates in his quotes, inspiring societal transformation:

“An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.”

“Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.”

“The mind is everything. What you think you become.”

These teachings guide us towards building a compassionate and equitable society, free from the chains of oppression and inequality.
