Rising atrocities against Christians: An unheard lament !!!
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu : Bureau Chief-South
Telangana-Andhra Pradesh:- In a country constitutionally defined as secular and democratic, should Christians still live in fear, deprived of their basic rights and the freedom to profess their faith?
Despite India’s technological advancements, live streaming capabilities, global uploads, surveillance systems, peace and security measures, social service agencies, media organizations, politicians, secular intellectuals, and an ostensibly robust justice system, these protections seem invisible when addressing the plight of Christians.
When foreign media and governments from minority religions present evidence of religious violence in India, the ruling systems dismiss these as miscalculations, insisting that the country is flourishing with peace and harmony.
Dr. L K Mrutyunjaya’s views respond to a viral video circulating on social media, showing a Christian group traveling in a mini bus, facing severe hate and slander. The video raises critical questions: What illegal act did this group commit? Why were copies of the Holy Bible thrown onto the road? Why were people inside the bus attacked? Such scriptures are often burned by mobs during these acts of violence.
Dr. Mrutyunjaya questions if the Apex Court would take such atrocities seriously, investigate impartially, and punish the culprits severely, could these incidents not be prevented?
He highlights the inaction of Chief Ministers, Ministers, MPs, and MLAs, who often express solidarity with Christians at public meetings. However, when religious extremist groups harass Christians, there is no record of these leaders taking action. In the two Telugu states alone, there are lakhs of Christians, represented by innumerable paper-representatives. Will any of them stand up, pursue these attacks to the end, and fight for justice for the victims?
Dr. Mrutyunjaya’s poignant questions resonate deeply: Is this the essence of “Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas”? Is this what a developed India looks like?
The views expressed by Christian Scholar and public intellectual, Dr. L K Mrutyunjaya underscore the frequent atrocities against Christians and the alarming lack of attention from media, democratic institutions, and secular defenders.
