Chittoor – Andhra Pradesh: BSP District President Surendra Babu has accused Jayachandra Reddy of illegally mining and selling sand from a poramboke land in Ramavanam Topu, Survey No. 494/2, under Morampally Revenue in Irala mandal. According to Babu, Reddy has been earning lakhs of rupees by exploiting approximately 8 acres and 73 cents of this land, earmarked by authorities as poramboke since 1994.
BSP leaders demand action
Speaking at a media conference at the Chittoor Press Club, BSP Assembly Constituency President Vallattur Uday Kumar highlighted that the land is poramboke, which should prevent any form of commercial activity on it. He further stated that previous Tahsildar Varalakshmi had placed warning boards on the site, making it clear that no one was allowed to enter or use the land for personal gain.
“Despite these clear warnings, Jayachandra Reddy continues to extract sand from the site and sell it for profit, violating the land’s intended purpose,” said Uday Kumar.
Appeals ignored by authorities
Uday Kumar also revealed that repeated complaints have been lodged with the current Tahsildar regarding the illegal sand mining activities, but the authorities have failed to take any action. “We have appealed multiple times, but the Tahsildar has turned a blind eye to the situation,” he alleged.
Leaders join the call for justice
The media conference saw the participation of several leaders, including All India SC, ST United State General Secretary Muniswamy, AIDRF District President Damodaram, and BSP leaders Bhanuchander and Vinayakam. Dalit Sangham leaders R Prasad, Ramesh, and Bullet Babu also joined the demand for immediate intervention by authorities to stop the illegal exploitation of the poramboke land.
The leaders collectively called for urgent action to protect lands from unlawful encroachment and to hold those responsible for the exploitation accountable.9
