Chittoor BSI observes Dhammachakra Transformation Day with piety !!!

Andhra Pradesh:- On Sunday, the Buddhist Society of India (BSI) celebrated the 2523rd Dhammachakra Transformation Day of Buddha at the Janata Bazar premises in Chittoor city. BSI District President AV Somarajulu highlighted that two months after Gautama Buddha’s enlightenment, he imparted his first teachings to five disciples—Kaundinya, Vappa, Bhadiya, Mahanama, and Aswajita—at Sarnath on Ashada Purnima day. This event marked the beginning of Buddha’s public teachings and the formation of the first Buddhist community.

Pancha sheela observed

The celebration began with all Buddhist monks donning Pancha Sheela scarves. They performed Puja and Dipa Puja to the Buddha and decorated the premises with Panchasheela flags, symbolizing the five precepts: refraining from harming living beings, abstaining from stealing, avoiding sexual misconduct, refraining from false speech, and abstaining from intoxicants.

Call for a dedicated Buddha Vihar

BSI District Honourary President Srirangampalli Munuswami announced the committee’s decision to submit a report to the government, requesting the allocation of land to construct a Buddha Vihar in Chittoor city. This vihar would serve as a center for Buddhist activities and ceremonies.

Global impact of Buddha’s teachings

State Executive Secretary Dr. Sudhakar, the chief guest, spoke about the universal benefits of Buddha’s teachings, emphasizing their impact on the global community. He urged the local population, particularly the disadvantaged people, to abandon superstitions and embrace the rational teachings of Buddha.

The event saw the participation of several prominent BSI leaders and community members. District General Secretary Dr. Chittibabu, Vice President Parthasarathy, Raj Kumar, Organizing Secretary V Krishna, M Bhupal, Devendra, and AIDRF District President V Damodaram, Ex-DVMC Member G Varadarajulu, leaders of various Dalit public associations, including Chittibabu, Murali, E Murugayya, R Prasad, Balayya, and Women’s leaders S Roja, V Komalavathi, Madhavi, and District General Secretary of DPSJAC Women’s Division K. Vijaya Gouri participated actively.

The grand celebration concluded with a lunch ceremony, symbolizing the Buddhist value of compassion and community service. The event underscored the enduring relevance of Buddha’s teachings and the commitment of the BSI to promote Buddhist values in Chittoor.
