Andhra Pradesh: At a conference organized by the Journalists’ Democratic Rights Forum (JDRF) on Sunday, General Secretary Meda Srinivas reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of journalists. Addressing a large gathering of reporters, advocates, and JDRF representatives, he condemned the growing influence of corporate powers in journalism and emphasized the need for journalists to remain fearless in their duties.
‘Journalism is under corporate control’
“Journalism today is caught in the waves of corporate pollution, but we are proving that true journalism is still alive,” said Meda Srinivas. He stressed that JDRF’s services are vital to rebuilding public trust in the media, which has been eroded by corporate interests. He also called for journalists to remain vigilant against the pressures of big businesses. “Journalists must stand apart from crimes and expose them to the world, despite the growing control of corporate powers over the media,” he warned.
Commitment to journalists’ safety and legal protection
Srinivas assured journalists that JDRF would stand by them in the face of official harassment and unlawful cases. He urged them to fulfill their social responsibilities without fear of retribution. “Our journalists must never shy away from reporting attacks and atrocities committed against them. JDRF will always be there to protect them,” he declared, criticizing the government for failing to provide adequate personal and health security for journalists.
Action plan for journalists’ welfare and safety
JDRF is preparing an action plan to ensure the welfare of journalists, focusing on legal protections, health security, and measures to counter harassment. “No JDRF member should fear uncovering irregularities. We will defend every concerned journalist facing official intimidation,” Srinivas assured.
Role of journalists in exposing crimes
Highlighting the vital role of journalists in exposing wrongdoing, Srinivas urged reporters to stand united against corporate pressures and governmental negligence. “Journalists must play a major role in exposing crimes and irregularities, and they should never be complicit in such activities,” he asserted.
Senior leaders pledge support
The meeting was chaired by JDRF President Pulathota Krishna, with senior advocate and JDRF legal advisor Torati Vasantha Rao, and AP Unions JAC Chairman Keta Srinivasa Rao, among others, pledging their support for journalists. They spoke on the pressing challenges faced by journalists today, including legal harassment and lack of security.
Journalists and representatives from across various districts participated in the event, voicing their concerns and backing JDRF’s plans for stronger protections and reforms in the media industry.
