Proddutur rallies against drugs: DSP leads campaign

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: As part of Drug Eradication Week, an awareness rally and conference were held at Vagdevi Institute of Technology and Science (VITS) on Tuesday in Proddutur to combat rising drug use among youth. DSP Bhaktavatsalam and other experts addressed students, stressing the severe impact of drugs on education and urging vigilance in reporting drug-related activities.
Rally for awareness
The anti-drug awareness event was organized by Vikasitha Foundation led by S Lakshmidevi, in collaboration with local authorities and educational institutions. A rally, starting from Vijay Kumar Theater and concluding at Shivalayam Center, saw enthusiastic participation from Vagdevi Engineering College students and NSS volunteers. The procession aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of drug addiction among youth.
DSP Bhaktavatsalam’s warning
DSP Bhaktavatsalam, the keynote speaker, emphasized the detrimental effects of drug abuse on the future of young people, saying, “Youth who are addicted to drugs are neglecting their education.” He urged the community to be vigilant and report drug-related activities, warning that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found selling or using drugs.
Psychologist’s advice for families
Psychologist Dr. Venkata Ramadu also addressed the students, advising them to consider their families’ financial struggles and resist the temptation to experiment with drugs. He noted that the government offers free counseling and rehabilitation services for those already struggling with addiction at the Kadapa RIMS.
Community involvement
The event saw participation from various charitable organizations, with the Star Foundation providing support. VITS Principal Siddeshwara Rao and NSS officers played an active role in organizing the event. Dr. Nagarjuna, speaking on behalf of the college, made a call to the youth to come forward and be agents of change in the battle against drugs.
Call for action
ICDS CDPO Srilakshmi highlighted the growing health problems among youth due to substance abuse, reinforcing the need for more such initiatives. “The youth are suffering from health issues due to intoxication, and it’s time we act together to stop this menace,” she said.
The program concluded with students, faculty, and local leaders reaffirming their commitment to drug eradication, reflecting the community’s unified stand against the growing drug menace.
The event was attended by faculty, students, NSS officers, and representatives of voluntary organizations, including Juturu Vijaya Kumar, Ashok, Subbaiah, and others, who expressed gratitude to the organizers for their efforts in combating drug addiction.
