By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu : Bureau Chief

Bhadradri Kothagudem – Telangana MPPS Jakaram School has been at the forefront of environmental awareness and conservation efforts, exemplified by a series of initiatives aimed at educating students and the local community about the importance of plants.

Environmental pledge

On Saturday, students at MPPS Jakaram School, under the auspices of the World Environment Organization (WEO), took an environmental pledge to emphasize the significance of plants. This pledge, supported by the District Collector Jitesh V. Patil, aligns with the ongoing Vanamahotsava program, which saw the planting of various flora, including fruit, flower, and medicinal plants, in the school premises.

Fruit tree plantation

In December 2023, the school grounds were enriched with the planting of fruit trees such as guava, sapota, amla, lemon, and pomegranate. This initiative aimed to educate students and villagers on the importance of fruit-bearing plants, enhancing both ecological awareness and local biodiversity.

Sapling plantation drive

The Vanamahotsava celebration in July 2024 featured the planting of 50 saplings, including chinta, velaga, amla, kanuga, jasmine, rose, and hibiscus. This effort was designed to convey the vital role of plants in sustaining human life and maintaining ecological balance.

Fruit seed sprinkling

On July 17, 2024, fruit seeds were distributed in the surrounding areas of Bhadrachalam. This initiative aimed to provide food for forest animals and prevent them from venturing into human habitats, thus promoting a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and the local community.

Community involvement

Shaik Mahamood Pasha, Head Master, a key advocate for these environmental initiatives, emphasized the urgency of creating environmental awareness and the importance of planting saplings. “Creating awareness of the environment and the importance of planting saplings is the need of the hour,” Pasha stated. He is actively working to bring his efforts to the attention of the district collector and the relevant ministries at both the state and national levels, aiming to garner broader support and recognition for these vital conservation activities.
