Proddatur police arrest bike thief, recover 10 stolen motorcycles

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: Proddatur 2 Town Police arrested a man, Somireddy Palli Lazarayya, on charges of stealing motorcycles in Proddutur town. Acting on orders from Kadapa District SP Harshavardhan Raju, the police team recovered ten stolen motorcycles from the accused, estimated to be worth Rs 7 lakhs.
Seized motorcycles worth Rs 7 lakhs and arrest details
Inspector M Yugandhar, along with SI J Dhanunjaidu, R Raghavendra Reddy, and other police personnel M Ravindra Naik and B Ramanjulu conducted vehicle checks at a crossroad near Prakash Nagar, Maduru Road, Proddutur. They apprehended Lazarayya, aged 39, a resident of Brahmamgarimatam. The police recovered nine Shine motorcycles and one Dream Neo motorcycle, all of Honda brand, from his possession.
Modus operandi of the accused
The accused, Lazarayya, reportedly used fake keys to unlock and steal motorcycles parked in busy areas of Proddatur town. He would then store the stolen bikes among the thorny trees nearby his house, covering them with plastic wraps to avoid detection. Lazarayya’s plan was to sell the motorcycles in Bangalore for profit.
Police investigation and arrest
Upon receiving crucial information, Inspector M Yugandhar and his team, under the supervision of Proddatur DSP M Bhaktavatsalam, set up a checkpoint at Prakash Nagar. They apprehended the accused during routine vehicle checks and seized the stolen motorcycles. The arrest is part of an ongoing effort to curb thefts in the area.
Lazarayya is in police custody, and further investigations are underway to determine if more vehicles were involved in the theft ring.
