Andhra Pradesh: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship inaugurated a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) extension centre at the Andhra Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, aiming to address the immediate skill gaps in Andhra Pradesh and expand employment opportunities for the local youth.
Focus on skill training and employment
Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, inaugurated the centre, which will offer training in Computer Software Applications (CSA) under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) from the 2024-25 academic session. Additionally, short-term computer application courses will be available through the Advanced Vocational Training scheme.
Facilities and support
The centre, located on the AMTZ campus, includes a fully equipped computer lab and furnished classrooms. Hostel accommodations and mess facilities are provided free of charge for outstation candidates. Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director of AMTZ, assured full support for the centre’s smooth operations.
Commitment to empowering youth
Jayant Chaudhary emphasized the central government’s commitment to enhancing skill infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. He expressed gratitude for the state government’s support and highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on providing better livelihood opportunities for the region’s youth.
Tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
In honour of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary, Chaudhary paid tribute to the late President, praising his contributions to science, education, and youth empowerment through skill development and innovation.
Addressing a long-standing gap
Prior to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, three NSTIs operated in the undivided state, all of which remained in Telangana post-split. The new centre aims to fill the void in Andhra Pradesh’s skill development infrastructure.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma and Trishaljit Sethi, Director General of Training at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, were also present at the event, reinforcing the significance of the initiative for the region’s economic growth.
