Andhra Pradesh:- Even decades after India’s independence, many citizens still lack proper housing,” said Dr. Goda John Paul, State President of Mala Mahanadu, during a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner of Piduguralla Town, Palnadu District on Thursday. Dr. John Paul passionately argued that the government’s failure to provide adequate housing for its citizens is a national disgrace.
“It is a matter of deep shame that so many people are still living without a permanent roof over their heads, forced into makeshift or rented accommodations. This stark reality calls for immediate and decisive action to ensure that every citizen has a place to call home,” he asserted.
Under the directive of the Mala Mahanadu State Committee, Dr. John Paul and the group urged the municipal commissioner to address the dire housing situation faced by many locals. These residents, despite living in the area for years, are forced to reside on ready-made land or in rented houses due to the lack of permanent housing.
Dr. John Paul criticized the government’s inability to provide adequate accommodation, noting the irony of a prosperous nation failing its most vulnerable citizens. He pointed out that large sums of government funds were allocated for the Jagananna Colony project, which provided small plots of land. However, these efforts have fallen short of addressing the extensive housing crisis.
The memorandum also included a request to rename the Jagananna Colony to Dr. B R Ambedkar Colony, in honour of the revered social reformer. Dr. John Paul emphasized the need for immediate action to grant residential plots to the poor, either within the Jagananna Colony or elsewhere, to alleviate their long-standing hardships.
Accompanying Dr. John Paul were Jai Bhimrao Bharat Party, Gurjala Constituency In-Charge Juluri Ramesh, Mala Mahanadu District Social Media In-Charge Godabala Jonnalagadda Venkatarao, M Padmavathi, Y Lakshmamma, Ganjanaboina Salamma, Gaddam Chinna Gnanaiah, Chitti Mala Sridevi, Sandavarapu Swapna, and Chitti Mala Mary.
The Mala Mahanadu State Committee has been actively submitting similar memorandums to municipal and revenue officials throughout Andhra Pradesh, urging the government to take decisive action to provide housing for the poor.
