Rajahmundry – Andhra Pradesh: JDRF General Secretary Meda Srinivas has urged the TDPto take action against Guntakal MLA Gummanur Jayaram for allegedly threatening journalists. Srinivas condemned Jayaram’s remarks, stating that intimidating the press undermines democratic values.

MLA’s remarks spark concern

Jayaram reportedly warned reporters to be cautious when reporting news about him and threatened repercussions for what he claimed were false reports. His statement—suggesting he would “lie on the railway tracks” if false news was published—has raised concerns about press freedom.

Press freedom must be protected

Meda Srinivas criticized Jayaram for failing to recognize that journalists serve the public by reporting facts. He argued that the MLA’s threats indicate fear of exposure and reflect a deeper issue of suppressing uncomfortable truths.

Demand for legal and party action

Srinivas called for a suo motu case to be registered against Jayaram for his self-admitted past actions and demanded an unconditional apology. He urged TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu to take disciplinary action, warning that legal measures would follow if the issue was not addressed.
