Global Thirukkural Conference announced; Focus on hypnosis at Pondicherry event

Pondicherry: Union Minister Dr. L Murugan revealed plans for a Global Thirukkural Conference in New Delhi while inaugurating an international event on hypnosis at Pondicherry University. He also lauded the Prime Minister’s response to public concerns about the Tungsten mining project in Tamil Nadu.
Thirukkural Conference to highlight India’s literary legacy
Dr. L Murugan announced the government’s plans to host a Global Thirukkural Conference in New Delhi, describing the timeless appeal of Thirukkural as a treasure for humanity. Preparations are underway for this prestigious event, which aims to celebrate the universal values of the classical Tamil text.
Prime Minister’s action on Tungsten project appreciated
The Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for halting the Tungsten mining project in Melur, Madurai district, following concerns raised by local communities. He praised the government’s responsiveness to public welfare.
Significance of hypnosis highlighted at International Conference
In his inaugural speech at the International Conference on Hypnosis across Lifespan: Promotion, Prevention, and Intervention, Dr. Murugan emphasized the potential of hypnosis as a versatile tool for enhancing well-being, preventing dysfunction, and addressing critical interventions. The event aims to foster dialogue on the application of hypnosis across the human lifespan.
Opportunities in hypnosis research and collaboration
Dr. Murugan encouraged scholars, practitioners, and industry leaders to explore hypnosis, highlighting opportunities for research, case studies, and interdisciplinary collaborations. He also mentioned government initiatives like One Nation, One Subscription and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation to strengthen India’s research ecosystem.
Books released and awards presented
During the event, Dr. Murugan released two books—’Book of Abstracts and Ulaviyal Sorkalanjiyam’, authored by Prof. Panch Ramalingam of Pondicherry University. He also presented the Academy of Hypnosis Lifetime Achievement Awards and the Indian School of Psychology Association Leadership Awards 2024.
The event was presided over by Prof. K Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) of Pondicherry University, and attended by prominent figures, including R Selvam, Speaker of Puducherry Legislative Assembly, A Namassivayam, Puducherry Education Minister, PML Kalyanasundaram, MLA, Prof. S. Mohan, Vice Chancellor of Puducherry Technological University, and Prof. Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar of Pondicherry University.
Delegates gather for two-day conference
Jointly organized by the Indian School of Psychology Association, the Academy of Hypnosis, and Pondicherry University, the conference has brought together around 500 delegates from India and abroad to discuss and advance the field of hypnosis.
