Amalapuram – Andhra Pradesh: Left party leaders staged a dharna at Clock Towen Center in Amalapuram on Sunday, condemning what they termed America’s “imperialist dominance” through tariff hikes and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to defend India’s interests against US President Donald Trump’s repeated threats.
Condemnation of tariff hikes
CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao and former CPI District Secretary K Satthibabu denounced the US decision to impose 50 percent additional tariffs on Indian goods, calling it an attack on India’s economy and sovereignty.
Criticism of Modi’s silence
The leaders accused Prime Minister Modi of remaining silent despite Trump’s repeated hostile statements against India. “Modi, who speaks for hours in Parliament, has not uttered a single word against Trump’s exploitation,” Satthibabu said. They alleged that Modi’s stance reflects a submissive approach to American pressure.
Criticism of US imperialism
Speakers lashed out at what they described as America’s strategy of inciting wars to sell weapons and undermine BRICS nations, which together represent 57 percent of the global population. They noted that Trump had belittled India nearly 40 times since assuming office for a second term.
Warning of public resistance
The Left leaders warned that Indian citizens will not remain silent in the face of economic injustice and international bullying. They drew parallels with large-scale protests by Americans themselves against Trump’s policies at the White House.
The protest saw the participation of CPM and CPI leaders Bhimala Srinivas, K Shankar, G Daimani, P Alekhya, K Easwar, G Ramana, Nagaraju, Nagababu, and K Nageswara Rao, who vowed to intensify the struggle if India’s sovereignty continues to be compromised.
