Veteran Actor Nana Patekar Dies at 75 After Cardiac Arrest in Goa

New Delhi| Area Correspondent: Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, on Thursday morning.

According to hospital sources, Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but despite their efforts, he did not respond to treatment. He was declared dead at 5:20 am.

His son, Malhar Patekar, who was in Pune at the time, has left for Goa.

Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar built a remarkable career in Hindi and Marathi cinema, earning widespread recognition for his powerful screen presence, intense performances and distinctive dialogue delivery.

Patekar made his Bollywood debut with the 1978 film Gaman and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Wajood, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Shakti: The Power and Taxi No. 9211.

He also won over audiences with his comic performance as Uday Shetty in Welcome (2007) and reprised the role in Welcome Back (2015). His other notable films included Raajneeti (2010), Natsamrat and Housefull 5.

A recipient of three National Film Awards, Patekar was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to Indian cinema and the arts. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his acclaimed performance in the Marathi film Natsamrat.

Beyond acting, Patekar also explored filmmaking and playback singing, lending his voice to films including Yeshwant, Wajood and Aanch.

Patekar was last seen publicly just four days before his death at an event in Dona Paula, Goa, where he attended and addressed the Samraat Club International installation ceremony.

Away from the film industry, he was also associated with social causes and was particularly known for supporting farmers and families affected by agrarian distress.

Nana Patekar’s death marks a significant loss for Indian cinema. His distinctive acting style, powerful dialogue delivery and memorable performances across decades left a lasting impression on generations of audiences.
