Ayush Ministry launches ‘Shatavari – For Better Health’ campaign nationwide

New Delhi: In an effort to promote the health benefits of medicinal plants, the Ministry of Ayush launched a new awareness campaign, “Shatavari – For Better Health,” focusing on the medicinal properties of Shatavari. The initiative was inaugurated by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, in the presence of senior ministry officials, including Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO, National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB).
Promoting traditional medicine
During the launch, Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the significant strides made by the Ministry of Ayush over the past decade in popularizing medicinal plants. He praised the NMPB for its efforts in promoting awareness about Shatavari and noted the success of previous campaigns on Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha.
Alignment with national goals
The minister also underscored the relevance of Shatavari in advancing the Panch Pran goal, a vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2022. He emphasized that promoting Shatavari aligns with the broader mission of achieving holistic health and making India a developed nation by 2047.
Government support for medicinal plants
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha elaborated on the achievements of NMPB in promoting medicinal plants through initiatives like the Central Sector Scheme for the Conservation, Development, and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants. He stressed the importance of sustainable cultivation and long-term conservation of species like Shatavari.
Health and economic benefits of Shatavari
Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich emphasized the medicinal and economic significance of Shatavari, particularly in women’s health and immunity enhancement. He announced that financial assistance of Rs 18.9 Lakhs would be provided to eligible organizations to support the campaign and encourage wider adoption of Shatavari.

The “Shatavari – For Better Health” campaign aims to raise awareness about the therapeutic properties of the plant and integrate it into mainstream public health practices. With this initiative, the Ministry of Ayush continues to champion traditional medicine as a vital part of India’s healthcare system.
