Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections conclude peacefully with 65.58% turnout

Jammu & Kashmir: Legislative assembly elections concluded peacefully today, with a voter turnout of 65.58% recorded across 40 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the final phase on Tuesday. Voters in the region participated in a festive and celebratory atmosphere, underscoring their strong faith in the democratic process.
Historic election for Jammu & Kashmir
The peaceful elections, held in three phases, witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across all districts. Voters patiently waited in lines at polling stations, framed against the scenic backdrop of Jammu & Kashmir, reflecting the renewed spirit of civic engagement. The elections are seen as a significant milestone in the deepening of democracy in the region, with the people determined to shape their own future.
CEC Rajiv Kumar praises people’s determination
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, lauded the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their active involvement. CEC Rajiv Kumar remarked, “These elections mark a significant deepening of democracy that will echo in history and inspire the democratic spirit of the region for years to come.” He dedicated the success of the elections to the people of J&K, acknowledging their resolve to embrace democracy.
Triumph of democracy
CEC Rajiv Kumar had previously expressed confidence that the elections would symbolize the defeat of “nefarious and inimical interests” and the triumph of democracy. His remarks during the announcement of the general elections in J&K on August 16, 2024, proved prophetic as the peaceful polling unfolded without any incidents of violence. The successful completion of the elections is viewed as a resounding statement in favour of democracy, driven by the will of the people.
Peaceful final phase of voting
The final phase of voting, which commenced at 7 am today, concluded peacefully by 7 pm, with a substantial voter turnout of 65.58%. The smooth conduct of the elections, coupled with high voter participation, reflects the people’s desire for a stable and democratic future in Jammu & Kashmir.
