New York : Representing the world’s largest democracy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s developmental success and called for reforms in global institutions to ensure peace and sustainability, while addressing a global forum at the United Nations ‘Summit of the Future’ in New York.

Human-centric development and poverty eradication

Speaking on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians after his recent re-election, Prime Minister Modi emphasized a human-centric approach to global development. “In the largest elections in human history, India has entrusted me with a third consecutive term. I bring the voice of one-sixth of humanity,” he said.

Modi urged world leaders to prioritize sustainable development and human welfare. “By lifting 250 million people out of poverty, we have shown that sustainable development can be successful. We are ready to share this success with the Global South.”

Call for reforms in global institutions

Stressing the need for collective strength, Modi highlighted the importance of reforming global institutions to maintain relevance. “Reform is the key to relevance. The inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 at the New Delhi Summit was a significant step.”

The Prime Minister also flagged emerging challenges, such as terrorism and new theaters of conflict like cyber, maritime, and space. “Global action must match global ambition,” he asserted, urging for robust international cooperation.

Safe and responsible use of technology

Modi called for balanced regulation in technology to safeguard national sovereignty while promoting digital innovation. “We need global digital governance that ensures national sovereignty and integrity. Digital public infrastructure should be a bridge, not a barrier.”

India, he said, is ready to share its digital public infrastructure with the world for collective global good.

India’s commitment to global prosperity

Concluding his address, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to global peace and prosperity. “For India, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ is more than a slogan—it’s a commitment. This is reflected in initiatives like ‘One Earth, One Health’ and ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid.’ India will continue working to protect the rights of all humanity and promote global prosperity.”
