Rajampet – Andhra Pradesh: A surge in thefts at Jagananna Colony, Boinapalli in Rajampet is pushing poor families further into debt as they struggle to complete their homes. Victims say thieves are targeting construction materials and household fittings, leaving them devastated after investing their lifelong savings and loans.
Construction materials, appliances stolen
RCP State Committee Member Madagalam Prasad along with Vijay Kumar and Venkatesh said thefts of sand, cement, rods, and bricks have become routine, while recently thieves broke locks to steal fans, lights, wires, taps, and pipes from newly built homes.
Case of dialysis patient
In one case, thieves looted household appliances worth nearly Rs 1 lakh from the home of dialysis patient Shanthi Kumar, worsening his already dire situation.
Demand for strong police action
Prasad urged the government to form special anti-theft teams, step up police patrols, and install CCTV cameras. “The poor are sinking into debt to build homes, but these thefts are like a sword hanging over their survival,” he said.
