By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Rajahmundry – Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Lawyers Association (ALA) has strongly condemned the brutal attack on Telangana High Court Bar member Advocate Suresh Babu by a rowdy sheeter, demanding urgent measures from both the Centre and state governments to safeguard lawyers.

Call for protection of lawyers

ALA President MV Rajaram and General Secretary Meda Srinivas stressed that without security for lawyers, society risks sliding into lawlessness. They demanded the immediate implementation of the Advocates Protection Act on a war footing and called for the creation of special intelligence wings to prevent such attacks in advance.

Recognition and legal safeguards

The association demanded that lawyers with more than ten years of practice be recognized as court officers. They urged for stringent application of IPC Sections 353 and 332 in cases of assaults on lawyers, along with the establishment of special courts for speedy trials to restore lawyers’ confidence.

Action against attack in Telangana

Terming the assault on Advocate Suresh Babu unacceptable, ALA insisted the Telangana government take strict action against the perpetrators. They reminded that ALA has repeatedly submitted petitions to the Centre, states, and the Law Commission of India, pressing for the enactment of the Advocates Protection Act.

Plan for joint action

ALA President MV Rajaram and General Secretary Meda Srinivas announced plans to consult advocates across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to frame a joint strategy ensuring the safety and dignity of lawyers.
