Porapeta village cries for a proper road !!!
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu : Bureau Chief-South
Andhra Pradesh (Ground Report):- For over three decades, the residents of Porapeta village in Geddenapalli Panchayat, Katrenikona mandal, Dr. B R Ambedkar Konaseema District, have endured the absence of a proper road. Approximately 140 families live in this village, and the lack of proper road and transportation facility has severely impacted their daily lives, forcing them to travel three kilometers to reach the nearest bus stop.
Villagers speak out on the daily struggles
The villagers’ voices echo a common sentiment of frustration and hardship. “As it is a mud-road, if it rains, we cannot pass through that road,” says Peyyala Rambabu, who, along with fellow residents Peyyala Prakasa Rao, Nandiki Venkateswara Rao, Giddi Balayogi, Peyyala Srinu, Kasi Bhimrao, Donipati Sathyaprasad, Dadala Krishnamurthy, Peyala Shekhar, Saape Ravikumar, and others, highlights the dire need for a proper road.
Struggles with education and healthcare
Without a proper road, accessing essential services becomes a significant challenge. The villagers must navigate the difficult terrain to seek education, healthcare, and daily necessities. Students face obstacles in attending school regularly, and medical emergencies often escalate due to delayed access to healthcare facilities. Dadala Harshvardhan, Giddi Bhanoji, Giddi Sandeep, Giddi Trinath, Peyyala Chinababu, Peyyala Subrahmanyam, Peyyala Bhanumurthy, Peyyala Satyanarayana, Peyyala Nageswara Rao, Giddi Arjuna Rao, and others stress the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to ease these daily struggles.
Positive responses from public representatives
Despite positive responses from public representatives and officials, the main road construction remains undone. Ex-volunteer Peyyala Rambabu tells War-Times that while cement roads have been laid in some streets, the critical road connecting the village to the main route remains neglected. “One of the reasons for the non-arrival of the bus is the lack of a proper road,” Rambabu explains. The villagers’ calls for a solution seem to fall on deaf ears, with promises unfulfilled and immediate action lacking.
Road construction to resume soon
In 2018, a project aimed at constructing a proper road in Porapeta village and other villages began with an allocation of Rs 1.2 crore. Initial progress was made, but the work was abruptly halted due to unspecified reasons. Local officials now indicate that the tender for the project will be reopened soon, promising a permanent solution under the supervision of the local Sarpanch, MLA, and concerned engineers.
Panchayat Raj Local Secretary Gaddada Ravikumar told War-Times that while waiting for the main construction to resume, patchworks are being carried out intermittently using panchayat funds to repair the most troublesome sections of the road. “A permanent solution will be soon,” he assured, offering a glimmer of hope for the beleaguered villagers.
The villagers of Porapeta remain hopeful that these promises will soon translate into tangible improvements in their daily lives.
