Trade unions call for repeal of new criminal laws !!!

Telangana:- In a strong show of solidarity, the Depressed People’s Rights Struggle Committee and the Gaddar Abhi Manula Sanghas have joined forces with central labor unions to demand the immediate repeal of three newly enacted criminal laws. The United Platform of 10 Central Trade Unions argues that these laws pose significant dangers and were introduced without adequate public consultation.
Critics highlight that the new laws were enacted based on parliamentary committee recommendations without making the draft legislation public. They refute claims that these laws modernize outdated British-era statutes, pointing out that Section 124 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) retains old provisions alongside new regulations. Notably, the punishment under this section has been increased from three to five years, raising concerns about harsher penalties.
Union leaders warn that the new laws could be used to label dissenters and trade union activists as terrorists, potentially stifling legitimate protest and labor activities. In a joint statement, representatives from INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS, AIUTUC, SEWA, AICCU, UTUC, LTIF, and TUCC emphasized the threat these laws pose to democratic freedoms and worker rights.
The coalition calls on the government to repeal these laws immediately to protect civil liberties and ensure a fair and transparent legislative process.
