Andhra Pradesh:- United Teachers Federation (UTF) has condemned the recent government order (GO) implementing the Guaranteed Pension Scheme (GPS) for Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) employees. They argue that this move is a serious deception against working teachers.
In a statement, District Chief Secretary MTVAS Subbarao emphasized that it was the desire of teachers to abolish the CPS and reinstate the old pension scheme. He noted that despite previous government assurances, the GO was not released due to prior struggles. The sudden implementation of GPS, retroactive from October 2023, and the release of the Gazette have been described as a betrayal to teachers.
Subbarao called on the current government to annul the GO and reinstate the old pension scheme immediately. He also urged the government to enforce the central government’s 2017 memo 57, which advocated for the restoration of the old pension for teachers appointed through the 2003 DSC.
In protest, members of UTF Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema District Committee burned copies of the Gazette and GOs at the Clock Tower Center, demanding the cancellation of the GPS and the return of the OPS. Notable participants included Honorary President Bethinidi Srinivasa Rao, Treasurer Kesha Rao, District Secretaries GV Ramana and P Murugeswara Rao, along with K Srinivas, Adbala Kashi, Chandrakala, V Ratnam, BN Venkateswara Rao, B Srinivasa Rao, G Prasad, and a large number of activists.
