District Collector Sivashankar praises charitable initiatives of Vikasita Foundation

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: District Collector Lotheti Sivashankar commended the Vikasita Foundation, a charitable organization, for its efforts in supporting the health and welfare of prisoners in Kadapa District. On Wednesday, the foundation president Shulam Lakshmidevi was honoured by the Collector for conducting eye tests and providing corrective glasses to inmates, especially women, in local jails.

Eye care initiative for prisoners
Under the leadership of Vikasita Foundation President Shulam Lakshmi Devi and Secretary Shulam Shivaprasad Yadav, the foundation recently conducted an eye care camp at the women’s jail, providing much-needed eye tests and eyeglasses to inmates with vision issues. District Collector Sivashankar, who participated in the event, praised the foundation for their continued dedication to the well-being of marginalized communities. Highlighting the positive impact such healthcare initiatives have on prison inmates, District Collector lauded foundation’s service programs in education, health, and women empowerment.
In this program, Principal Senior Civil Judge S Praveen Kumar, Superintendents of Men’s Central Jail, K Rajeswara Rao, and Special Women’s Jail, Krishnaveni, participated, along with Rayalaseema Range Regional Director (RMO) Civil Surgeon Y Srinivasa Rao, Psychologist Dr. Sunitha, Assistant Director of Information Department Venugopal Reddy and Medical Officers.

Vikasita Foundation’s ongoing service programs
In addition to their work in jails, under the leadership of Shulam Lakshmi Devi and Secretary Shulam Shivaprasad Yadav, Vikasita Foundation has been conducting a wide range of service activities, including education, women empowerment, and skill development. The foundation also recently has spearheaded a 15-day anti-drug awareness campaign across schools and universities in the district, addressing the growing concerns about drug abuse among youth.
Lakshmi Devi, expressing her commitment to serving people despite limited resources, noted, “I love to serve people, and despite the challenges, we are dedicated to our mission. The support from my husband, Shivaprasad Yadav, has been invaluable in continuing our work.”
Call for government support
Lakshmi Devi urged the government to recognize and encourage the efforts of Vikasita Foundation. “If we receive more support, we can expand our service programs and reach more people in need,” she said.
Recognition and honours
Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Gajjela Venkatalakshmi, State Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav, and Yogivemana University Vice Chancellor Prof. Krishna Reddy were among the dignitaries who honoured Shulam Lakshmi Devi for her foundation’s contributions to society. The officials expressed hope that other voluntary organizations would be inspired by Vikasita Foundation’s tireless efforts and join the movement to better serve their communities.
