Proddatur Horror: Husband Allegedly Poisons Wife Over Weight Issues After Buying Toxin Online

Proddatur-Andhra Pradesh: In a chilling case from Proddatur, a 31-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband, who police say poisoned a milk-based sweet and fed it to her after reportedly developing resentment over her body weight and eating habits. The accused, identified as Kiran Kumar of Eshwar Reddy Nagar, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, according to ASP Vibhu Krishna.
The case has also raised disturbing questions about the misuse of digital platforms, after investigators revealed that the accused allegedly procured the poison through a contact found in a YouTube video advertising “dangerous poison.”
Wife allegedly poisoned through ‘Palakova’
Addressing the media at the ASP office on Tuesday, ASP Vibhu Krishna said the accused allegedly mixed poison into Palakova, a traditional milk sweet, and gave it to his wife, Padmaja, on the night of the incident.
Police said Padmaja fell unconscious shortly after consuming the sweet and later died. Initially, the One Town Police registered a suspicious death case on the 30th of last month.
However, during the investigation led by One Town CI Konda Reddy, the case reportedly took a dramatic turn, uncovering what police describe as a premeditated murder plot.
Poison allegedly purchased online for ₹80,000
According to police, Kiran Kumar had allegedly come across a YouTube video carrying the caption “Dangerous Poison Available.” Investigators said he contacted a phone number linked to the video and allegedly purchased the toxic substance through courier delivery for ₹80,000 on the 29th of last month.
Police are now trying to trace and identify the person who supplied the poison and examine whether a larger illegal online network is involved in the sale of hazardous substances.
Couple had a daughter
Police said the couple, residents of Eshwar Reddy Nagar in Proddatur, had a daughter. Investigators indicated that marital discord and the husband’s alleged dissatisfaction with his wife’s appearance and eating habits may have driven the crime.
The accused was subsequently taken into custody and produced before the court, following which he was remanded to judicial custody.
Digital age raises new concerns over human relationships
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing emotional disconnect and psychological strain affecting close relationships in the digital era. Experts have increasingly warned that unrealistic body image expectations, online influence, emotional alienation, and easy access to harmful content through digital platforms are reshaping domestic relationships in dangerous ways.
What once remained confined to personal frustration is now often amplified by anonymous online spaces, where vulnerable individuals can access toxic ideas, illegal networks, or extreme solutions with alarming ease.
The Proddatur case reflects a troubling trend where technology, instead of strengthening human connection, is sometimes becoming a tool for deception, emotional detachment, and even violent crime.
Police continue investigation
ASP Vibhu Krishna stated that police are continuing investigations into the source of the poison and the digital trail connected to the alleged purchase. Authorities are also examining the online content and communication channels used in the transaction.
The case has sent shockwaves across the region, with residents expressing concern over the brutal nature of the crime and the ease with which hazardous substances may allegedly be accessed online.
