By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Guntur – Andhra Pradesh: Expressing deep concern over the rising number of fatal road accidents in the Telugu states, social activist Madasu Bhanu Prasad on Tuesday met State Panchayat Raj Commissioner Krishna Teja at his residence and appealed for urgent, coordinated measures to enhance road safety and driver accountability.

India records 10% of global road accidents

Madasu Bhanu Prasad highlighted that more than 10 percent of the world’s road accidents occur in India, with the two Telugu states ranking among the highest in the country. He said the growing number of fatalities was alarming and demanded comprehensive road safety reforms.

Recent tragedies reflect systemic failures

Referring to recent incidents, the activist expressed sorrow over the death of 19 people in a collision between a gravel tipper and an RTC bus in Chevella, and 20 deaths in a bus fire accident in Kurnool last month. He noted that several accidents occurred due to poor accident identification, delayed response, and lack of preventive mechanisms.

Call for inclusion of road safety advocates

He appealed to the government to include social workers and safety advocates in the Road Accident Prevention Committee, ensuring grassroots participation in shaping effective accident-control strategies.

Demand for action against reckless and drunken driving

Madasu Bhanu Prasad urged authorities to take strict action against tipper drivers responsible for overspeeding and reckless driving. He emphasized the need for zero tolerance toward drunken driving and strict enforcement against minors and triple riding, which continue to endanger lives despite existing laws.

Need for rest and regulation for drivers

The activist pointed out that fatigue and long working hours among professional drivers often lead to fatal errors. He urged Commissioner Krishna Teja to introduce rest regulations, monitoring systems, and awareness programs to curb such incidents and ensure safer roads across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
