CBI arrests four in Hisar ECHS bribery case, recovers Rs 25 lakh

Haryana: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four individuals, including a doctor from the ECHS Polyclinic, Hisar, Haryana, a private doctor, and two others, for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe in connection with an inquiry involving a private hospital in Rohtak, according to an official press release.

Bribery allegations and case registration

On January 25, 2025, the CBI registered a case against two accused, including a doctor from the ECHS Polyclinic and a private doctor who acted as a middleman. The accused allegedly demanded Rs 1.40 crore to conclude an inquiry against a private hospital owned by the complainant’s wife. The complainant had reportedly paid Rs 35 lakh as part of the bribe and was pressured to pay another Rs 35 lakh as an advance.

Trap operation and arrests

A CBI team laid a trap and apprehended the private doctor/middleman red-handed while accepting Rs 10 lakh in bribe money. The doctor from the ECHS Polyclinic was also apprehended during the operation.

Role of other accused

Further investigations revealed the involvement of a private individual from Hisar and a Senior Accounts Officer from the Defence Accounts Department, Ministry of Defence, who allegedly facilitated clearances. Both were apprehended and later arrested.

Court proceedings and judicial custody

The four accused were presented before a Panchkula court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

During searches conducted at the premises of the accused, the CBI recovered Rs 25 lakh in cash along with incriminating documents.

Ongoing investigation

The CBI stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details about the bribery scheme and any additional individuals involved.
