Delhi: Medical professionals, engineers, scientists, and key stakeholders gathered at a day-long conference on Thursday, at the iHub Anubhuti IIITD Foundation, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT Delhi), to explore AI-driven solutions aimed at enhancing patient care, optimizing clinical processes, and improving healthcare outcomes. The event highlighted interdisciplinary collaboration as a key to transforming healthcare in India.

AI-driven solutions to revolutionize healthcare

The conference titled “AI in Healthcare: Bridging the Gap Between Medicine and Engineering” was inaugurated by Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Prof. Karandikar emphasized the transformative potential of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) in healthcare, aiming to integrate AI, clinical sciences, and basic sciences to leverage India’s data for improved healthcare access.

The Role of NM-ICPS in healthcare advancement

Prof. Karandikar outlined the NM-ICPS’s vision to recalibrate and synchronize efforts over the next three years, addressing India’s strained healthcare system through impactful AI-based advancements. He stressed the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle healthcare challenges and called on participants to offer concrete recommendations.

Collaborative efforts for practical solutions

Jointly organized by DST and five Technology Innovation Hubs (TiHs) under NM-ICPS, with co-support from AIIMS Delhi, the conference sought to foster interdisciplinary research and explore practical implementations of AI in healthcare. The event brought together experts to discuss ways to align engineering and medical sciences for better healthcare solutions.

Key insights from healthcare and engineering experts

Distinguished professionals, including Dr. Sandeep Aggarwal from Manipal Hospitals, New Delhi; Dr. Sanjeev Sinha from AIIMS Delhi; Dr. Saket Choudhary from IIT Bombay; and Dr. Bharat Aggarwal from Max Hospitals, Delhi, shared their insights on the intersection of AI and healthcare. They discussed how AI can address pressing medical challenges and improve patient outcomes.

Interactive panels and exploration of AI potential

The event featured interactive panel discussions, such as “Perspective of AI in Healthcare from Medical Community” and “Perspective of AI in Healthcare from Engineering Community,” offering diverse viewpoints. Attendees also visited the Medical Cobotics Center (MCC), gaining a comprehensive understanding of AI’s potential in transforming healthcare practices.
