By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

Porumamilla – Andhra Pradesh: In a significant move to curb underage driving, the Porumamilla police seized vehicles from minors caught driving two-wheelers without licenses. The police then summoned the parents of these minors for a counseling session, emphasizing the legal and safety repercussions.

Parents and minors counselled

On Wednesday, Porumamilla Circle Inspector Srinivasulu and SI Konda Reddy led an initiative to address the rising concern of minors driving two-wheelers in Porumamilla town of Kadapa District. The police intercepted several underage boys driving without licenses, causing disruptions in traffic. The minors, along with their parents, were brought to the Porumamilla police station, where the officers conducted a detailed counselling session. They warned both the minors and their parents that strict action would be taken against anyone caught violating traffic laws, especially when it involves underage driving.

Dangers of underage driving

During the counselling, Inspector Srinivasulu highlighted the dangers of underage driving, pointing out the increased risk of accidents when minors, who lack experience and proper training, are allowed to operate vehicles. He stressed that such behaviour not only endangers the lives of the minors but also poses a significant threat to other road users.

The Importance of parental responsibility

The officers underscored the importance of parental responsibility, urging parents to refrain from allowing their children to drive two-wheelers until they are of legal age. They explained that allowing minors to drive not only violates the law but also has severe consequences, including the possibility of legal action against the parents and vehicle owners. The police warned that they would continue to enforce strict measures to prevent such incidents, aiming to ensure road safety in the community.

This intervention by the Porumamilla police serves as a reminder of the critical role that parents and guardians play in upholding the law and safeguarding the well-being of their children and others.
