By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu : Bureau Chief-South

Andhra Pradesh:- CPM Party has called on the government to provide substantial support to the family of Chedalavada Vijay Krishna, who tragically died in a boat accident during flood relief operations in Oodimudi Lanka villages, P Gannavaram. The CPM Party District Committee team visited Vijay Krishna’s family on Monday.

Demand for comprehensive support

During the visit, CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao demanded an ex-gratia payment of Rs 25 lakh for the family, criticizing the government’s announcement of Rs 5 lakh as insufficient. He also urged the government to provide comprehensive support to Vijay Krishna’s family, highlighting their dire situation. Vijay Krishna’s father has been paralyzed for the past five years, and his younger sister, Kalyani, remains unemployed despite having an MBA degree. The CPM insists that Kalyani should be given a government job to help support the family.

Action for negligence

Kaarem held the Kothapeta RDO and the revenue administration responsible for Vijay Krishna’s death, citing negligence in their flood prevention measures. He demanded the immediate suspension of the RDO, who was serving as the special officer in charge of the mandal.

He emphasized that relief operations should only be conducted after taking necessary protective measures, criticizing the decision to send boats into high water flow areas without proper precautions, which led to the overloading and subsequent accident. Kaarem also highlighted the negligence in employing inexperienced young people for the relief operations.

Additional demands

Additionally, Venkateswara Rao condemned the state government’s announcement of Rs 3,000 per family for flood-affected areas as inadequate. He pointed out that many families in the Lanka villages, who rely heavily on vegetable farming, will not be able to harvest crops for another six months due to the floods. The CPM demands that the government provide Rs 10,000 per month for each affected family during this period, along with 50 kg of rice, 16 essential items, and vegetables for their meals.

The CPM Party District Committee members, including Peethala Ramachandra Rao, Rajolu Secretary Bunga Satyanarayana, and District leader Polamuri Srinivasa Rao, were also present during the visit.
