Kolkata:- Eastern Railway celebrated International Women’s Day as a token of recognition of immense contribution of women workforce engaged in Railways in particular and contribution of women in shaping the Nation’s development in general. A colourful programme was organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Eastern Railway’s Headquarters, Kolkata, today (08.03.2024). This year’s theme is, ‘Invest in Women : Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic empowerment, while the campaign theme for this year is ‘ Inspire Inclusion’ resonates deeply with Eastern Railway’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Eastern Railway takes pride in fostering an inclusive working environment that empowers women in all roles, from locomotive pilots to ticket collectors, booking clerks, guards, and station managers. At Eastern Railway, women are integral to operations, driving growth, innovation, and efficiency throughout the system. Women employees across Eastern Railways in various roles exemplify professionalism, dedication, and skill, contributing significantly to the growth and success of Eastern Railway. Locomotive pilots navigate trains safely and efficiently, ensuring the smooth operation of our railway network. Ticket collectors and booking clerks provide excellent customer service, facilitating seamless travel experiences for passengers. Guards ensure the safety and security of both passengers and staff, while station managers oversee the smooth functioning of railway stations.

Today’s celebration of International Women’s Day at Eastern Railway’s Auditorium, Udisha, encompasses a diverse program aimed at honoring and celebrating the invaluable contributions of women employees within Eastern Railway. From the warm reception of esteemed guests to an engaging exploration of a Handicraft Exhibition showcasing women artisans’ creativity, the event unfolds with a welcome address by Smt. Zarina Firdausi, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, followed by impactful speech by Smt. Seema Deouskar, President of the Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (ERWWO).
Shri Milind K Deouskar, General Manager/ Eastern Railway in his address, highlighted the pivotal role of women in Eastern Railway’s success. He acknowledged dedication, talent, and perseverance of lady employee as one of the important driving forces of Eastern Railway. He further reaffirmed Eastern railways commitment in providing a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers women to excel in their careers and contribute to their growth and development.
Noteworthy highlights of the event include the unveiling of a pamphlet spotlighting women’s achievements and the felicitation of exemplary women employees. A dynamic Power Point Presentation further showcases Eastern Railway’s commitment to women’s empowerment through various initiatives. The celebration culminates in a vibrant Cultural Programme, underscoring the diversity and talent of women across the organization. An exhibition was also organized at Udisha Auditorium of Eastern Railway’s Headquarters at Fairlie Place to display paintings, sculptures, needle works etc made by the women Railway employees and dependent women family members of Railway employees to uphold their personal abilities.
Eastern Railway’s celebration of International Women’s Day 2024 at headquarters offices and as well as in its four divisions and four workshops has been a resounding success, filled with inspiring moments and reaffirmations of commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Eastern Railway remains steadfast in its dedication to creating a workplace where every individual, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to this collective journey.
