Action demanded against caste discrimination in Gonabavi village incident

Rayadurgam – Andhra Pradesh: A shocking case of caste discrimination in Gonabavi village, Gummagatta mandal, has sparked outrage among SC/ST JAC activists, with demands for strict legal action against those responsible. Police and revenue officials stepped in to address the issue, emphasizing equality and issuing stern warnings against future incidents.

Incident sparks outrage among SC/ST communities

On Monday, JAC In-charge of SC and ST associations Chelimappa condemned the discriminatory actions in Gonabavi village, where Dalits were reportedly barred from entering a local hotel. Chelimappa called for immediate registration of an SC/ST Atrocity case against those responsible and demanded stringent punishment for their actions.

Police and administration intervene to restore harmony

The incident prompted swift action from Tahsildar Srinivasulu and Rayadurgam Rural Circle Inspector (CI) K Venkataramana, Gummagatta Sub-Inspector (SI) Eswariah when the JAC lodged a formal complaint with them, urging legal proceedings against the perpetrators. To address community tensions, police and revenue officials collaborated to raise awareness about equality and social harmony, engaging with village elders to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Awareness programs on SC/ST laws announced

As part of preventive measures, special programs will be conducted across the mandal to educate communities about SC/ST laws and the consequences of caste-based discrimination. Authorities hope these initiatives will promote inclusivity and deter discriminatory practices in the future.

Police issue stern warnings

Police and revenue officials emphasized that any repetition of such acts would invite severe legal consequences. “We will not tolerate untouchability or caste discrimination. Legal action will be taken against anyone indulging in such practices,” they warned.

Community leaders unite against discrimination

The program witnessed the active participation of several district and village leaders, including SC/ST JAC district leaders Dona Thimmappa, BSP Rayadurgam president Madanappa, R Kollappa, Venkatesh and MRPS leader Aluru Gangadhara, VMC Member Mohan. Public association members and local Dalit elders Vinod, Ajay, Charan, Abhi, and Gangappa joined the gathering, voicing their support for justice and equality.

The incident in Gonabavi village highlights the pressing need for continued efforts to combat caste discrimination and enforce SC/ST atrocity laws. With the proactive intervention of authorities and the unwavering resolve of SC/ST leaders, the fight against untouchability continues, sending a clear message that such injustices will not be tolerated.
