CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender in Bogtui Carnage Case

After Four Years on the Run

Kolkata : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested proclaimed offender Rohan Sk., alias Kismot Sk., in connection with the infamous Bogtui Carnage Case, a brutal incident that claimed the lives of ten people in West Bengal in 2022.

According to the CBI, the accused was apprehended on June 23, 2026, from Mirza Ghalib Road in Kolkata after remaining absconding since the registration of the case. Investigators stated that he had consistently evaded arrest and failed to participate in the investigation and subsequent trial proceedings.

The Bogtui Carnage, one of the most shocking incidents of political violence in recent years, occurred in March 2022 in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The case drew nationwide attention after ten people, including women and children, were allegedly trapped inside houses that were set ablaze, resulting in their deaths.

The CBI took over the investigation on March 25, 2022, following an order issued by the Calcutta High Court. The agency re-registered the case based on Rampurhat Police Station FIR No. 169/2022, originally filed on March 22, 2022.

During the course of its investigation, the CBI conducted extensive inquiries, collected forensic evidence, recorded witness statements, and examined multiple leads related to the incident. Based on the evidence gathered, the agency filed a chargesheet along with three supplementary chargesheets between 2022 and 2024 against a total of 27 accused persons, including Rohan Sk.

Officials stated that despite repeated efforts to trace him, Rohan Sk. remained underground and deliberately avoided the legal process. As a result, the competent court in Rampurhat declared him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) through an order dated April 5, 2024.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the long-running investigation and trial process. CBI officials believe the apprehension of the absconding accused will help expedite judicial proceedings in the case and ensure accountability for all those allegedly involved in the crime.

The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Competent Court in Purba Bardhaman on June 24, 2026, where the agency is expected to seek further legal action in connection with the case.

The Bogtui Carnage continues to be remembered as one of the most tragic incidents of mass violence in West Bengal’s recent history. The arrest of a key absconding accused after more than four years underscores the agency’s ongoing efforts to bring all alleged perpetrators before the law.

The investigation and trial proceedings in the case remain ongoing.
