Tiger Zone Norms Choking Tribal Life in Jannaram, TVYS Urges MP Nagesh to Seek Relaxation

Forest officials not allowing construction of government-sanctioned houses, collection of sand, firewood even for cremation, and grazing of cattle in tiger zone villages

ADILABAD – TS: Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu -Assistant Chief Editor: Telangana SC, ST, BC, Minority Students and Youth Association (TVYS) State President Gavvala Srikanth met Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh at his residence on Thursday, wished him on his birthday, and submitted a representation seeking relaxation of tiger zone restrictions that are severely affecting tribal and backward communities in Jannaram

TVYS seeks intervention on Tiger Zone hardships

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Srikanth said the stringent enforcement of tiger zone norms in Jannaram is causing immense hardship to STs, BCs and SCs.

He alleged that forest officials are not permitting beneficiaries to construct houses sanctioned by the Central and State governments. Even basic construction material like sand, bricks and firewood is not being allowed to be transported into the villages.

The situation has become so severe that families are not being allowed to collect firewood even for cremation of the dead, he said.

Srikanth further said that cattle are not being allowed into the forest for grazing, citing disturbance to tigers and wild animals. The officials are stating that the presence of cattle itself is causing trouble to wildlife.

Appeal to Centre and Tiger Zone Committee

The TVYS delegation urged the MP to take up the issue with the Central Government and the Tiger Zone Committee in Delhi to provide relaxations in the norms for essential human needs.

“We requested the MP to initiate talks with the Centre and the Tiger Conservation Committee in Delhi to relax those rules that are essential for people’s survival. We told him that we, along with important representatives from Jannaram and other tiger zone-affected areas, are ready to come to Delhi if required,” Srikanth said.

He said the MP responded positively and assured that the issue would be examined.

TVYS District Presidents Dabbeti Ashok, Mesram Bhaskar, Sedmaki Bheem Rao, Ooddera Sangham Mandal President Jamil, Bonthala Lakshman, Syed Rizwan, Kondapalli Mahesh, Goli Chandu, Sandaveni Pavan, Mamidi Vijay and others participated in the meeting.
