Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Favoring the Rich Ahead of Delhi Polls

Editorial

New Delhi:  Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government has waived loans totaling ₹10 lakh crore for approximately 400-500 individuals over the past five years. He contrasted this with his administration’s approach, stating, “The people of Delhi have two models: the first is the Kejriwal model—where the public’s money is spent on the public… and the second is the BJP model—where the public’s money goes into the pockets of their rich friends. Now the public has to decide which model to choose.”

Kejriwal emphasized that under the AAP-led government, Delhi residents receive benefits amounting to up to ₹25,000 per month. He warned that if the BJP comes to power, it would halt all welfare schemes, as “it is against their model.”

In response, BJP leader Parvesh Verma accused Kejriwal of misleading voters through hoax calls, alleging that AAP is distributing ₹500 wrapped in a calendar in slum areas. He claimed that three individuals were arrested in connection with this matter and has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, demanding an investigation.

These developments occur in the lead-up to the Delhi assembly election, scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8. The main contenders are AAP, BJP, and the Congress party. Campaign discussions have recently focused on issues such as the polluted Yamuna River and allegations of misusing public funds.
