Farmers protest in Eluru demanding loan waivers and support prices

Eluru – Andhra Pradesh: In response to a nationwide call by the National Joint Kisan Morcha, farmers’ associations, labor unions, tribal associations, and other organizations staged a protest at the Eluru District Collector’s office on Wednesday. The protestors submitted a petition demanding fair support prices for crops, waiver of farmers’ loans, and immediate measures to prevent farmer suicides.
Key demands of the protesters
The protesting groups emphasized the urgent need for the government to implement support prices for crops to ensure financial stability for farmers. They also called for a complete waiver of farmers’ loans, citing the increasing debt burden leading to distress and suicides among farmers.
Participation from various organizations
The demonstration saw participation from multiple farmers’ associations and labour unions. Among those present were Andhra Pradesh Farmers’ Association Eluru District General Secretary Rayanku Lakshmana Rao, along with leaders Bandi Venkateswara Rao, Kuchipudi Nageswara Rao, Pottelu Pentayya, Golime Yesubabu, Kannababu, and Ashirvadam.
Call for government action
The protestors urged the state and central governments to take immediate action on their demands. They warned that continued neglect of farmers’ issues could lead to intensified agitations in the future.
