Amalapuram – Andhra Pradesh: A massive protest was held at the Clock Tower Center in Amalapuram under the auspices of the CPM on Sunday, demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation. Protesters condemned his controversial remarks regarding Dr. B R Ambedkar, claiming they mocked the Constitution’s architect. The demonstrators accused Shah of belittling Ambedkar’s significance by sarcastically stating, “If one chants Ambedkar, what will happen?” and implied disrespect for Ambedkar’s contributions to India’s progress.

Call to revere Ambedkar’s ideals

Speaking at the rally, CPM leader D Ramadevi emphasized the importance of Dr. Ambedkar’s teachings in addressing the pressing problems of India’s marginalized communities. She remarked, “Every individual should honour Ambedkar daily. If the challenges facing the poor and weaker sections are resolved, we can revere him as a deity. Ambedkar showed us the path to uplift the disadvantaged and create an equitable society.” Ramadevi also accused the BJP-led central government of undermining Ambedkar’s legacy through divisive and communal policies.

Criticism of economic policies

The protest also targeted the government’s economic policies, alleging a collusion with corporate entities to hoard national wealth. Ramadevi criticized efforts to privatize public resources and neglect farmers’ demands for fair prices, despite years of agitation. She urged citizens to unite against what she called “communal and anti-people policies” of the BJP.

The protest saw participation from leaders like CPI District Secretary K Satthibabu, CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao, and Agricultural Workers Association State President Dadala Subbarao. Other leaders included T Nagavaralakshmi, Peethala Ramachandra Rao, Bunga Satyanarayana, Tadi Srirammurthy CH Suryaprakasharao, P Srinivas and T Rambabu. A large number of activists and supporters joined the demonstration, echoing calls for the protection of Ambedkar’s vision and demanding Shah’s immediate removal from office.

The rally concluded with a collective pledge to continue the fight against policies that jeopardize the rights of the poor, farmers, and the working class, asserting Ambedkar’s ideals as the guiding force for justice and equality.
