Yemmiganur – Andhra Pradesh: AIKMS District General Secretary M Sattanna submitted a memorandum to ADM Narayana Murthy on Friday, calling for urgent action to resolve problems faced by farmers in the Yemmiganur Agricultural Market Yard, including the need for better infrastructure and protection from exploitation by brokers.
Demand for improved infrastructure in market yard
During a routine inspection by ADM Narayana Murthy at the Agricultural Market Yard, AIKMS District General Secretary M Sattanna highlighted the hardships farmers face, especially during the rainy season. He called for the construction of new sheds where farmers can dry their produce, as the existing facilities are inadequate. He pointed out that a previously approved shed had not yet been roofed, further complicating the situation for farmers.
Call for better amenities for farmers
Sattanna also requested improvements to basic amenities in the market yard, such as providing drinking water and establishing a rest facility for farmers, many of whom travel from distant areas. He urged the ADM to ensure these measures are implemented to ease the burdens on the farming community.
Action against exploitation by brokers
The AIKMS leader demanded immediate steps to stop brokers who are allegedly exploiting farmers by undervaluing their produce. Sattanna accused these brokers of unfair practices and urged the ADM to take strict action against them, ensuring farmers receive fair prices for their goods.
IFTU District Leaders S Balaraju and Babu joined Sattanna in advocating for the rights and welfare of farmers in the Yemmiganur Agricultural Market Yard.
