Andhra Pradesh: In a significant move to enhance the grandeur of Independence Day celebrations across villages, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has announced a substantial increase in funding for Panchayats. This decision aims to elevate the scale and impact of August 15 events, reinforcing the importance of national celebrations in rural communities.
Increased funding for panchayats
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has unveiled plans to significantly boost the financial support allocated for Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations in Panchayats. Previously, minor panchayats received Rs100, while major panchayats were allotted Rs 250 for these events. Under the new scheme, funding has been raised to Rs10,000 for panchayats with populations under 5,000 and Rs 25,000 for those with population above 5,000. This increased funding will be available for both August 15 and January 26 celebrations.
Concerns of sarpanches
Pawan Kalyan’s announcement follows feedback from several sarpanches who expressed difficulties in organizing Independence Day and Republic Day events due to inadequate funds. He highlighted that the previous allocations of Rs 100 and Rs 250 were insufficient for a grand celebration. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the need for increased funding to ensure these important national holidays are celebrated with the dignity they deserve.
Guidelines for celebrations
Pawan Kalyan has outlined specific guidelines for organizing Independence Day and Republic Day programs. These include: Conducting competitions such as essay writing, quizzes, and debates for students on topics like the uniqueness of the Constitution and local governance. Organizing games and activities involving local schools and teachers. Honouring freedom fighters, defense personnel, and sanitation workers within the panchayat. Distributing sweets and chocolates to children in schools and Anganwadis. Promoting cleanliness by taking oaths inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.
Emphasizing importance of national celebrations
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan stressed the importance of celebrating national days with grandeur in villages. He remarked that enhancing the scale of these events will help instill a greater sense of patriotism and civic pride among the rural population. By significantly increasing the funds and setting clear guidelines, the government aims to make these celebrations memorable and impactful for every community.
