US Rejects Russian Claims of Alaska Peace Deal as Zelensky Pushes for Fresh Ukraine Talks

War-Report : Washington Kyiv : The United States has firmly dismissed Russia’s claims that both countries reached an understanding to end the war in Ukraine during the Alaska Summit held in August 2025. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that no formal peace agreement emerged from the high-level meeting and emphasized that any future breakthrough would require entirely new ideas and genuine diplomatic efforts.

Rubio’s remarks come amid renewed international attempts to revive negotiations aimed at ending the prolonged Russia–Ukraine conflict, now entering another challenging phase with both military operations and diplomatic maneuvering continuing simultaneously.

United States Rejects Russian Interpretation

Following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on July 23, Secretary Rubio made it clear that the discussions held during the Anchorage (Alaska) Summit did not produce any binding agreement or roadmap toward ending the war.

According to Rubio, Russia presented several proposals during the summit, but those suggestions ultimately failed to generate meaningful progress.

He stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved by repeating old positions and that negotiations require fresh thinking, innovative diplomatic approaches, and realistic compromises from all sides.

The United States, he said, remains prepared to support any credible initiative capable of creating a sustainable peace.

Moscow Continues Referencing “Anchorage Agreements”

Despite Washington’s rejection of its interpretation, Russia has continued promoting the narrative that important understandings were reached during the Alaska Summit.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness for negotiations while expressing support for what it described as American peace proposals allegedly discussed during the summit.
