Global clean energy company BLUETTI has expanded

Editorial

NAIROBI, Kenya — Global clean energy company BLUETTI has expanded its collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to boost access to sustainable power solutions across Africa.

The partnership builds on the ongoing Lighting An African Family (LAAF) initiative in Kenya, now in its fourth year. To date, the program has supported 500 households—benefiting more than 2,000 people in underserved urban and peri-urban areas, with a strong focus on women-led families.

As part of its commitment, BLUETTI participated in the 2025 Devolution Conference (12–15 August), Kenya’s leading policy forum, where it highlighted how affordable clean energy can advance housing, urban resilience, and smart urban development. The conference underscored the shared vision of BLUETTI, UN-Habitat, and the Kenyan government: clean energy as a cornerstone of a sustainable future.

The initiative recently expanded to two urban centers: Muhoroni in Kisumu County and informal settlements in central Nairobi, including EX-Grogon and Mathare. Through training and technology transfer, BLUETTI distributed 500 E60 solar lighting and storage kits, directly benefiting more than 2,000 residents. Over the next five years, the program is projected to cut carbon emissions by 337.5 tons, while strengthening climate resilience and promoting environmental awareness.

“Partnership with BLUETTI brings renewable energy to vulnerable families in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly women-led households. It is a strong example of a UN–private sector collaboration,” said Oumar Sylla, Director of the Regional Office for Africa at UN-Habitat.

“We are proud to deepen our cooperation with UN-Habitat, carrying forward our shared mission to advance the Sustainable Development Goals,” added James Ray, BLUETTI spokesperson.

Looking ahead, BLUETTI and UN-Habitat plan to extend similar programs to other African countries, reinforcing their joint commitment to sustainability and energy equity.
