By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: In a strong push to tighten law and order, Kadapa District SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath has directed police officials to launch an aggressive crackdown on rowdyism, illegal liquor sales, drug trafficking, betting, and crimes against women. During a crime review meeting of the Proddatur sub-division, the SP emphasized zero tolerance, warning that strict punishment is inevitable for offenders.

Zero tolerance for rowdyism Kadapa

The District SP made it clear that rowdyism must be completely eradicated, instructing officials to keep constant vigil on rowdy-sheeters, habitual offenders, and known troublemakers. He directed police to act proactively based on intelligence inputs to prevent crimes before they occur.

Strict action on crimes against women

Emphasizing women’s safety, the SP ordered that a strong message be sent to the public that crimes against women and girls will invite severe punishment.

He instructed police to create awareness in schools and colleges about women’s safety and online harassment, and ensure complaints received—especially through women help desks—are resolved within a stipulated timeframe.

Crackdown on illegal liquor and public drinking

Taking a firm stance against illegal liquor trade, the SP directed officials to intensify raids on “belt shops” and register cases against offenders.

He also ordered action against individuals consuming alcohol in public places, with instructions to conduct frequent raids and enforce the law strictly.

War on drugs and anti-social activities

The SP called for stringent measures to eliminate ganja and narcotics from the district. He instructed police to use advanced tools such as drone cameras to identify and crack down on drug trafficking networks.

He further ordered intensified action against anti-social activities like Matka, cricket betting, and gambling, especially in view of the ongoing IPL season. Known offenders are to be kept under constant surveillance and counseled to prevent repeat offenses.

Enhanced surveillance and preventive policing

Officials were directed to map crime patterns—particularly theft cases—to strengthen patrolling in vulnerable areas. The SP also emphasized the importance of regular beat patrols, including monitoring by ‘Shakti’ teams in schools, colleges, offices, and crowded public spaces.

Focus on community policing

The SP instructed police personnel to actively engage with communities through Gram Sabhas, Palle Nidra (overnight village stays), and frequent village visits. These initiatives aim to build trust and gather ground-level intelligence.

Public grievance redressal and accountability

Directing officials to be citizen-friendly, the SP stressed that complainants visiting the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) must be treated with respect and their issues resolved promptly within the legal framework.

Mandatory CCTV installation and monitoring

Under the A.P. Public Safety Act, the SP ordered awareness drives to ensure installation and proper functioning of CCTV cameras in shops, lodges, hotels, apartments, and other crowded places.

Road safety and drunk driving checks

Highlighting road safety, the SP directed officials to identify accident-prone areas and take preventive measures. He ordered strict enforcement against drunk driving, overspeeding, and traffic violations, including surprise checks and case registrations.

Officials attend review meeting

Proddatur ASP Vibhu Krishna, along with Circle Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors of the sub-division, participated in the crime review meeting held at the District Police Office.

Our Media Opinion

The Kadapa SP crackdown on crime marks a strong and much-needed push to restore law and order in Kadapa district. With rising concerns over drugs, illegal liquor, and crimes against women, this focused action in Kadapa sends a clear message that enforcement will be strict and continuous. However, the success of this Kadapa initiative will depend on consistent follow-up, ground-level policing, and public cooperation. If implemented effectively, these measures can significantly improve safety across Kadapa and surrounding areas. The emphasis on surveillance, awareness, and preventive action shows that Kadapa police are moving toward a more proactive and accountable policing system.
