YSR Kadapa Minor Rape-Murder Case: Accused Gets Life Term; Victim’s Family to Get Rs 5 Lakh

Police crack case within 30 hours of crime; 90-day swift investigation and tight prosecution lead to conviction under POCSO Act

KADAPA – AP: Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu – Assistant Chief Editor: A POCSO court in Kadapa sentenced a 19-year-old hotel cook to life imprisonment for raping and burning alive a minor girl in Badvel in October 2024. Judge M.A. Somasekhar also imposed a fine of Rs. 8,000 on the convict and directed the government to pay Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the victim’s family.

The crime

The case relates to Crime No. 231/2024 of Badvel Rural Police Station registered under Sections 64, 103, 303(2), 238 of BNS and Section 3 r/w 4 of POCSO Act-2012.

According to police, the accused Jakkala Vignesh alias Sai, 19, son of Chandrasekhar, resident of Ramanjaneya Nagar, Badvel Town and presently residing at Om Shanti Nagar, Kadapa City, lured the minor girl in the name of love to the P.P. Kunta forest area under Badvel Rural limits. He sexually assaulted her and later set her ablaze after pouring petrol. The girl succumbed to severe burn injuries while undergoing treatment. The offence occurred on October 19, 2024.

Swift investigation in 90 days

The case was investigated by then Badvel Rural Circle Inspector M. Nagabhushanam. Police said he collected technical evidence and arrested the accused within 30 hours of the offence.

Under the supervision of Mydukur SDPO G. Rajendra Prasad, over 60 witnesses were examined and a watertight chargesheet was filed within 90 days. Police also ensured the accused did not get bail till the completion of trial. Present Badvel Rural CI N. Krishnaiah played a key role in producing witnesses on time and expediting the trial.

Court verdict

Hearing the case, the Kadapa POCSO Court Judge M.A. Somasekhar convicted the accused under BNSS Section 258(2) and awarded life imprisonment and fine.

SP felicitates investigation and prosecution team

District SP S. Nachiket Vishwanath held a press conference and disclosed key aspects of the investigation. He felicitated the officers and staff with appreciation certificates and cash rewards.

Those rewarded include then CI M. Nagabhushanam, Additional Public Prosecutor K. Venugopal, present CI N. Krishnaiah, SI K. Srikanth, Court Monitoring ASI A. Nagendra and PC Srinivasulu Reddy for effective investigation and prosecution.

The SP also rewarded then Atlur SI B. Ramakrishna, then Badvel Rural SI K. Srikanth, ASI RV Narasimha Rao, PC N. Prasanna Kumar for assisting in the early arrest, and HC T.V.N. Prasad, PCs K.C. Peerayya, U. Brahmam, S.M.D. Rafi, S.K. Khaja Hussain and K. Srinivasulu for shifting the critically injured victim to Badvel Government Hospital and attempting to save her life.

Reiterating the department’s stand, SP said, “Police will take stringent action against those committing atrocities on women and girls. The department gives topmost priority to the safety of women and girls. No offender will be spared and effective investigation and prosecution will continue to ensure punishment as per law.”
