Residents of Yemmiganur’s new SC colony protest over poor roads

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Andhra Pradesh: Residents of new SC colony in Yemmiganur town staged a dharna on Wednesday, demanding immediate action from municipal authorities to address crumbling infrastructure, lack of CC roads, and unhygienic conditions in their locality.

No roads, only potholes

CPI (ML) New Democracy district leader M Satyanna highlighted that the colony lacks proper CC roads and that rainwater has worsened the situation, turning existing paths into pothole-filled hazards. The poor road conditions pose daily challenges, especially for children and the elderly.

Flooded homes and health hazards

Residents complained that even light rains cause water to flood their homes, leading to the spread of fevers and increasing the risk of injuries. Satyanna warned that the unsanitary conditions could trigger a public health crisis in the area.

Sewage and stench from adjacent areas

The protestors also raised concerns about chicken waste and sewage from nearby localities entering their colony, creating unbearable stench and unhygienic living conditions. Satyanna demanded that a wall be built urgently to prevent further contamination.

Calls for immediate action

The protestors urged Yemmiganur municipal authorities to immediately begin the construction of CC roads and a wall to protect the colony. They emphasized that basic infrastructure is a fundamental right and not a luxury.

The protest saw the active involvement of IFTU leaders Balaraju and Babu, along with residents Sulochana, Padmavati, Mary, Erramma, Jyoti, Balaswamy, Nagesh, Raju, Shanthi, Lakshmi, Chittemma, Yellappa, and others, who vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met.
