RCP demands justice for RIMS workers harassed by new contractor

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: The Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) has strongly condemned the harassment of long-serving workers at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Kadapa, following the appointment of a new contractor, and demanded strict adherence to labour laws regarding wages, service continuity, and workers’ rights.
RCP protests contractor’s unfair practices
On Tuesday, RCP State Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy joined the protesting workers and boycotted duties at RIMS in solidarity. Addressing the gathering, he alleged that the newly appointed contractor was “implementing his own laws” in violation of established labour regulations.
He emphasized that it was unacceptable to dismiss or harass workers who have served for nearly two decades, particularly sanitation workers, under the pretext of educational qualifications or age limits.
Call to uphold labour laws and worker rights
Ravi Shankar Reddy demanded that the old duty system be reinstated and that weekly holidays and fair wages be ensured as per labour law. “The contractor has no authority to remove permanent workers who have given years of service to the institution,” he asserted. He warned that if such injustices continue, the RCP would intensify its agitation to safeguard the rights and dignity of all workers.
Workers join hands in protest
Several RIMS employees, including RCP leaders Madagalam Prasad and Vijay Kumar, along with other contract and sanitation workers, participated in the protest. The demonstrators urged immediate government intervention to protect their livelihoods and prevent further exploitation by private contractors.
RCP vows continued support to workers
The RCP reiterated its commitment to stand by workers across Rayalaseema and ensure fair treatment in public institutions. “We will not remain silent when injustice is done to the working class,” declared Ravi Shankar Reddy, vowing to continue the struggle until workers’ rights are restored.
