National Education Day celebrated honouring Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s legacy

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: Movement for Peace and Justice (MPJ) commemorates India’s first Education Minister at DCSR Colony Urdu Primary School, on Monday.
Honouring Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s contributions to education
National Education Day was celebrated at DCSR Colony Urdu Primary School under the auspices of the Movement for Peace and Justice (MPJ). MPJ State General Secretary Sheikh Salim served as the Chief Guest, while DCSR Colony 10th Ward Member Mohammad Sabir attended as Guest of Honour. MPJ leaders spoke about Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s pivotal role in shaping modern Indian education.
Champion of education and freedom fighter
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, was also a respected freedom fighter, in Nehru’s cabinet after India gained independence. Known for his unwavering dedication to advancing education in India, Azad founded universities and promoted literacy, advocating education as a path to empowerment. In recognition of his lifelong contributions, the central government declared his birthday, November 11, as National Education Day in 2008.

Inspiration and legacy of a visionary leader
Born in Mecca, Azad migrated to India, where he became an ardent advocate for India’s freedom alongside Mahatma Gandhi, resisting British rule with determination. Speaking at the event, Sheikh Hussain Basha highlighted Azad’s role as a freedom fighter and educational visionary. “Azad’s efforts laid the foundation for a strong, inclusive education system in India,” he said, adding that Azad’s legacy continues to inspire new generations.
Engaging students through competitions
The event included a speech competition for children, focusing on Maulana Azad’s life and his contributions to education. Winners were awarded mementos as a tribute to their efforts in remembering Azad’s legacy.
Leaders and community participation
MPJ District President Zakir Umri, Vice President Nazir Ahmed, Secretary Mohammad Rafi, Media Secretary Aslam, Treasurer Ismail, and other MPJ members including Allabaksh and Mukhtar attended the event, expressing their support for the continued celebration of National Education Day in honour of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s lasting impact on Indian education.
