New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission’s prestigious Summer Internship Programme concluded on a reflective note on Friday, with NHRC Chairperson Justice V Ramasubramanian urging young interns to prioritize compassion and human connection over material achievements.

Chairperson calls for human-centric approach

In his valedictory address, Justice Ramasubramanian described the real success of the internship as the friendships and human bonds formed among students from diverse regions and backgrounds. “True wealth lies in the ability to touch lives with kindness,” he said, encouraging interns to grow as better individuals who contribute meaningfully to society.

Secretary General emphasizes integrity and reflection

Delivering the keynote address, NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal highlighted the importance of intent, ethics, and reflection in life’s decisions. He told interns that even the smallest ethical choices could have a profound societal impact and urged them to align their decisions with core human values.

Programme outcomes and achievements

NHRC Joint Secretary Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak presented the programme report, outlining key highlights. Winners of book reviews, group research presentations, and declamation contests were also announced during the ceremony.

Leadership and learning through interaction

Over four weeks, 80 students from across India attended in-depth sessions led by NHRC leadership, government officials, and human rights experts. These covered a broad spectrum of issues related to human rights promotion, protection, legal frameworks, and institutional challenges.

Hands-on exposure through field visits

The interns also visited several institutions, including Tihar Jail, SHEOWS NGO, National Commission for Women, and the National Green Tribunal. These trips gave the students a direct glimpse into the functioning of justice delivery and rights-based organizations.

Ceremony concludes with thanks and encouragement

Lt. Col. Virender Singh, Director, NHRC, delivered the vote of thanks. Senior NHRC officials, including RP Meena (DG – Investigation), Joginder Singh (Registrar – Law), and Samir Kumar (Joint Secretary), attended the closing event, marking the successful end of the 2025 internship programme.
