Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Sharmila has demanded immediate action against Adani Power contracts, accusing Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of protecting Adani and engaging in corruption.
Sarcastic criticism
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Sharmila has openly criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of protecting Adani and engaging in corruption. She has demanded immediate action against the Adani Power contracts, which she claims have burdened the state with exorbitant costs. Sharmila mocked Chandrababu’s call for accurate information, labeling it as the “biggest joke of the decade,” and questioned why he did not act on the information he had while he was in the opposition.
Changing stance
While in opposition, Chandrababu had accused Adani Power of corruption, alleging that the company had burdened the people of the state with thousands of crores by charging higher rates. He had claimed that corruption was hidden in the contracts made with Adani and had even gone to court over the power contracts. However, Sharmila highlighted the irony of his changing stance on Adani, from enemy to ally, once he was in the ruling party.

Call for cancellation
Sharmila urged the immediate cancellation of Adani Power contracts, alleging that the agreements were detrimental to the state’s finances. She also called for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the contracts, citing reports from the American investigation agency FBI that claimed corruption occurred in the contract made with SECI by the previous government.
Accusations of inaction
Sharmila further accused Chandrababu of cheating the people of the state by asking for accurate information despite the visible evidence of corruption. She criticized the government’s inaction in bringing the ACB into the field to investigate the contracts and claimed that they were protecting Adani. She asserted that the matter had been sidetracked under Modi’s direction and demanded that Chandrababu cancel the Adani power contracts that cost the state lakhs of crores of rupees and bring the ACB into the field to find out the truth about the Adani affair.
Demand for transparency
Sharmila’s statements reflect the Congress party’s demand for transparency and accountability in the Adani Power contracts, urging Chandrababu to prioritize the welfare of the state’s people. She emphasized that if Chandrababu truly cared about the state’s welfare and did not have a secret agenda with Adani, he should take immediate action to address the alleged corruption and financial burden on the state.
