Amalapuram – Andhra Pradesh: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has initiated a week-long public campaign from November 8 to 15 to address pressing issues impacting citizens. As part of the campaign, CPM leaders are mobilizing support to demand concrete government action on inflation, women’s safety, and public services. A massive dharna is planned at the district collector’s office on November 14.
Campaign to address soaring prices and essential needs
CPM District Convenor Kaarem Venkateswara Rao highlighted that the campaign is aimed at easing the increasing economic strain on citizens. The party is pushing for immediate price controls on essential commodities and seeking relief from rising electricity charges, which have imposed additional burdens on households.
Demanding action on safety and justice
The CPM is calling for stricter measures to prevent violence against women, children, and Dalits, condemning the government’s failure to curb such crimes. “Public safety should be a top priority,” said Kaarem, criticizing the lack of accountability and effective action in protecting vulnerable communities.
Liquor regulation and accessibility
The party is also advocating against the illegal sale of alcohol and demanding the closure of “belt shops” (unlicensed liquor outlets) that disrupt communities. They further demand the relocation of licensed liquor shops from areas where they are a public inconvenience.
Housing, sanitation, and infrastructure needs
The public campaign will emphasize the need for improvements in local infrastructure, including roads, clean water access, and adequate drainage. The CPM is urging the government to provide housing and land for the homeless and ensure proper access to housing schemes for eligible beneficiaries.
Additional demands for ration and utility relief
As part of their efforts to ease household burdens, the CPM is pushing for free sand availability, free gas cylinders (three per year) for those with white ration cards, and other measures to make essential resources more accessible.
November 14 dharna to amplify demands
The CPM has called for a mass demonstration at the district collector’s office on November 14, where local leaders, including K Krishnaveni, G Durgaprasad, M Balaram, T Naga Varalakshmi, and leaders of public associations K Praneet, Shashi, Shankar and Dorababu, will join to press for immediate government action. The party is urging people across the district to rally in support of the movement and demand solutions to long-standing public grievances.
