Hyderabad: The SC Anti-Classification Struggle Committee, chaired by State President Gavvala Srikanth in Basheerbagh Press Club on Tuesday, has called for the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on caste classification to be cancelled, arguing that the introduction of the “creamy layer” concept is unjust. The committee emphasized the need for statehood for the Bahujan community and announced plans for a “Chalo Hyderabad” protest on December 14.
Demand to cancel SC judgment
State President Gavwala Srikanth, speaking at a press conference, stressed that the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the creamy layer should be reversed, as it unjustly segments the Bahujan community. He questioned whether leaders ranging from the President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Governors, and officials of all levels would face similar scrutiny under the creamy layer classification. Srikanth reiterated that caste-based distinctions should not exist, and the Bahujan community should be granted statehood.
“Chalo Hyderabad” protest announcement
The “Chalo Hyderabad” program, set for December 14, will feature prominent leaders, including Bhim Army Chief and Uttar Pradesh MP Chandrasekhar Azad, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) Party National President Prakash Ambedkar (grandson of Dr. B R Ambedkar), and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP National President Mayawati. They, along with other Dalit Bahujan leaders, are expected to lead the protest against the caste-based creamy layer classification imposed by the Supreme Court.
Call for unity in protest
Gavvala Srikanth urged all those opposing the classification of the creamy layer among the Mala and Mala sub-castes to set aside personal differences and join the Chalo Hyderabad protest. He emphasized the need for unity in opposing the classification, noting that the event represents a broader movement for equality and fairness within the Bahujan community.
The conference was attended by several leaders, including Dalit Bahujan Party National President Vadlamuri Krishna Swarup, All India SC ST Advocate Forum State General Secretary Pasula Rajalingam, Mala Mahanadu National President Dr. VL Raju, State President JN Rao, and Women’s Association National President CH Roja Leela. Other public associations, women’s groups, district leaders, activists, and supporters participated, showing widespread support for the movement.
