Hyderabad: Former YSR Congress MLA Hafiz Khan, along with MP Vijayasai Reddy, voiced firm opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill during a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting in Hyderabad. The leaders submitted a formal objection, expressing concern over the bill’s potential impact on the Muslim community.
YCP submits written objection to JPC
During the JPC meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill, Hafiz Khan and Vijayasai Reddy handed over a letter to JPC Chairman Jagdambika Paul. Khan later addressed the media, explaining why the YSR Congress Party is against the bill, which they believe will harm the Muslim community by weakening the Waqf tribunal and transferring authority over Waqf lands to district collectors.
Concerns over impact on Muslim community
Hafiz Khan warned that if the Waqf Amendment Bill is passed, it will create serious challenges for the Muslim community. He emphasized that the YSR Congress Party, under the leadership of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is committed to opposing the bill, citing its potential to erode the authority of the Waqf tribunal and cause widespread discontent among Muslims.
TDP criticized for double stance on Waqf Bill
Hafiz Khan accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of playing a double game by adopting a confusing stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill. While TDP appears to support the bill in Parliament, Khan alleged that the party is deceiving the Muslim community by taking a different stance publicly. He urged the Muslim community to recognize TDP’s steps on this issue.
YCP united in opposition
Khan reiterated that YSR Congress Party members, including Mithun Reddy in the Lok Sabha and Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha, have strongly opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill. He underscored that the party, along with various Muslim organizations, will continue to stand against the bill and safeguard the rights of the Muslim community.
